Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D), who was recently selected as Vice President Harris’s running mate, is seen more favorably than former President Trump’s vice presidential selection, Ohio Sen. JD Vance (R), according to a new poll.
The ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll released Friday found 39 percent of respondents said they either have a “strongly” or “somewhat” positive view of Walz, By comparison, 32 percent of those surveyed said they either have a “strongly” or “somewhat” positive view of Vance
Additionally, 30 percent said they have a “strongly” or “somewhat” negative view of the Minnesota governor, while 42 percent say they have a “strongly” or “somewhat” negative view of the Ohio senator.
Walz’s pick as Harris’s running mate earlier this month followed weeks of turmoil in his Democratic party over whether President Biden should stay at the top of the ticket. In July, Biden dropped his reelection bid and endorsed the vice president.
Vance has recently gone after Walz’s military record, with the governor shooting back at attacks, stating on Tuesday that he is “damn proud of my service to this country.”
The new poll also found that just more than half of respondents — 52 percent — said they either “strongly” or “somewhat” agreed with Walz’s selection as Harris’s running mate. Forty-five percent of of those surveyed said they either “strongly” or “somewhat” agreed with Vance’s selection to join Trump on the Republican ticket.
The ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll, conducted between Aug. 9 and 13, featured 2,336 respondents and has a margin of sampling error of 2 percentage points.
