Hegseth to meet with Trump at Army-Navy game

Pete Hegseth will meet with President-elect Trump at the Army-Navy game on Saturday, a Hegseth adviser told The Hill.

The president-elect was expected to attend the game, which will take place in Landover, Md., outside of Washington, D.C. The Washington Post first reported that Hegseth, Trump’s pick for Defense Secretary, would also attend and meet with Trump.

Hegseth, a former Army National Guard officer, has been meeting with senators on Capitol Hill this week.

In recent days, he has experienced a stunning turnaround in his efforts to woo senators to support him to lead the Pentagon. While his confirmation is not assured, he appears poised to receive a hearing and is on more stable footing than he was late last week.

The improved position Hegseth has been credited by Trump World as an effort by Vice President-elect JD Vance, Hegseth and his team, and the power of the “MAGA” movement. Trump and his allies decided to turn up the heat on wavering GOP senators.

Hegseth has faced allegations of sexual misconduct and excessive drinking at previous jobs. While no GOP senator had publicly said they would oppose Hegseth, much of the focus was on Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa.) but Vance spoke with Ernst and other senators to urge them to give Hegseth a fair hearing.
