Live updates: Trump administration takes shape; Stefanik, Collins face Senate hearings

Day Two of the second Trump administration will see less pomp but continued circumstance, with executive and congressional actions expected.

Trump will attend an inaugural prayer service at Washington National Cathedral in the morning. He’s expected to meet with Republican leaders later in the day.

More of President Trump’s Cabinet nominees face senators on the path to confirmation on Tuesday, a day after the Senate unanimously Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) as secretary of State.

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) will appear before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in her quest to be confirmed as Trump’s UN ambassador. Over in the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, lawmakers will question Trump’s VA nominee, Doug Collins.

And at nearly the same time, Trump’s nomination of Scott Bessent for Treasury comes up for a vote in the Senate Finance Committee.

The busy day in Congress is likely to mirror moves across the Trump administration. Immigration sweeps in Chicago have been reported as possible, as the 47th president cracks down on those in the country illegally. It follows a flurry of executive orders clamping down on the border.
