Bindi Irwin and her husband, Chandler Powell, are parents to their 3-year-old daughter, Grace Warrior Irwin Powell, who they welcomed on March 25, 2021. She was their miracle baby after Bindi, daughter of the “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin, faced a public battle with endometriosis. Now, during a Q&A, the couple spoke out about people who ask them if they plan to have more kids.
“Bindi, a lot of you may already know, she went through a big journey with endometriosis. And basically it was an absolute miracle that we had Grace,” Chandler said.
He continued, “We love Grace so much and are reveling in every little moment we have with her, with our little miracle baby. So we are so happy with our little family at three.”
Bindi then added a reminder to be mindful when prodding couples about topics that could be sensitive.
“I really appreciate everybody who’s curious to see if we will have another child, but I do just want to send it out there that remember to be careful when you ask this question because you never know what’s happening in someone’s life,” she said. “In a family’s world, everything may seem fine on the outside, and on the inside, their own personal journey might have been filled with turmoil and challenges that you can’t even fathom.”
Bindi also said that she takes issue with people who use “only” to describe their daughter.
“Grace is our child,” she said. “She is our one beautiful, perfect, amazing little girl. And, oh my goodness, every single day I think about how lucky we are to have her.”
Although she noted the “kindness and good intent” behind most of the questions about whether she and Chandler plan to expand their family, “it’s also a really tricky question for many, many people who maybe can’t have another baby (or) can’t have a baby at all,” she said.
Bindi concluded, “We feel very lucky to have Grace. She is our beautiful girl, but she will probably be our one child. Maybe we will be blessed with another little one down the road. That would be incredible. But who knows?”
In 2023, Bindi publicly shared her endometriosis diagnosis for the first time, revealing in an Instagram post that she had had 37 endometrial lesions and a cyst removed. Endometriosis is a condition that causes the tissue that typically grows in the lining of the uterus to form in other parts of the body. It can cause pain, gastrointestinal issues, heavy periods, bloating, infertility, and other debilitating symptoms. It’s estimated that around 11% of women are impacted by endometriosis.
“Please be gentle & pause before asking me (or any woman) when we’ll be having more children,” Bindi wrote when she made her diagnosis public.
