Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) touted his party’s performance in the 2024 election cycle and blamed the Biden-Harris administration for Vice President Harris’s defeat in the presidential race.
In an interview on NewsNation’s “The Hill Sunday,” Lawler pushed back at the suggestion that President-elect Trump’s significant advantage over Harris did not similarly play out in down-ballot races.
“You can look at a district like mine, where Joe Biden won by 10 points four years ago, and when all ballots are counted, Donald Trump very likely will win my district, or come just short, which is significant movement across the country,” Lawler told Chris Stirewalt.
Lawler said the success of the Republicans, led by Trump, all “boils down to one thing: the issues.”
Lawler said people are frustrated by what he described as the economic, migrants and international “crises that have exploded under Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.”
“And this wasn’t just a function of Kamala Harris not being able to, you know, introduce herself to the American people in 107 days,” Lawler said, addressing a common explanation her supporters cite to explain her defeat.
“She’s the sitting Vice President United States. That argument is bunk. This really boils down to the failures of this administration to address the challenges facing the American people. And the American people spoke loud and clear,” Lawler said.
