Rubio blasts the media for ‘concerted effort’ to ‘breathlessly distort and lie’ about Trump

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) blasted the media for its “concerted effort” to “breathlessly distort and lie” about former President Trump.

Rubio joined CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday morning, when he was asked by host Margaret Brennan about Trump’s recent remarks about former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), which sparked criticism.

During a fireside chat with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson in Arizona on Thursday, Trump criticized Cheney, who has become an outspoken Republican Trump critic, and described her having guns “trained on her face.”

Rubio and Brennan spared on air Sunday over the issue, and he said they only played a “piece of the sound bite” because it would have shown Trump saying he would give Cheney a gun, too.

“The point he was making is not a new point. It is a point that has been made by people in both parties for decades, and that is, you’re all for war and it’s easy to be for war when you’re in some fancy building and you’re safe and sound in Washington, D.C., let’s see how much you are for war when you yourself get deployed into combat,” Rubio argued, highlighted by Mediaite.

The Florida senator continued, arguing that Trump uses language that is not typically heard from politicians.

“But I think it’s truly not just unfair, it’s egregious to see that reported the way that it was, along with other things that are out there,” Rubio said.

“I’ve never seen such a concerted effort and look, I’ve always believed there’s bias, because no one’s unbiased, but I’ve never seen such a concerted effort like what I’ve seen, especially in the last two weeks among multiple media outlets in this country to, in some cases, breathlessly distort and lie about what’s being said,” he continued.
