Ottawa Senators star Brady Tkachuk is known for not only his high level of skill but also his very chippy style of play. This element of his game is a big reason for his success in the NHL, but he took it too far during the Senators’ latest contest against the Buffalo Sabres.

Tkachuk threw a dirty hit from behind on Buffalo Sabres forward Jason Zucker during the first period of the Atlantic Division rivals’ Jan. 9 contest. Tkachuk was only given a two-minute minor for charging on the play, even though Zucker’s back was already turned a good amount of time before the hit.
Following receiving Tkachuk’s hit, Zucker was shaken up and needed to be helped off the ice. Thankfully, Zucker returned to the game after the fact.
Sabres defenseman Dennis Gilbert tried to get Tkachuk to fight after the hit, but the Senators captain refused to answer the bell.
It is good to see that Zucker seems to be good after briefly leaving the contest following Tkachuk’s cheap shot. Zucker has been one of the Sabres’ top stars this season, posting 15 goals and 31 points in 41 games.
