SEC Softball Power Rankings see big movement after upset weekend

We’re three weeks into SEC softball action, and there have been series upsets, and teams are beginning to reveal themselves as conference players. Oklahoma and Texas have separated themselves at the top of the conference, but like it has been in every other sport, the SEC is deep with some talented teams across the league.

Arkansas, Mississippi State, and South Carolina have been pleasant surprises in the SEC through three weekends, but will they be able to keep it up, stay in the middle of the pack, and make a run to the NCAA Tournament?

This week’s SEC power rankings saw some significant movement among the middle and lower ranked teams in the conference after this weekend’s action. Here are this week’s updated power rankings.

1. Oklahoma Sooners (29-1, 8-1)

Missouri came into the weekend last in the SEC and 99th in the nation in team ERA. The Tigers were able to hold Oklahoma in check on Saturday, limiting the Sooners to a home run in the seventh inning. It was a 1-1 game until the Sooners put two runs on the board in the sixth and two insurance runs in the seventh. Oklahoma is still a really good team, but that was a bit of a letdown against a team in last place in the SEC. Oklahoma’s series sweeps of South Carolina and Arkansas keep them in the top spot for now.

2. Texas Longhorns (31-2, 5-1)

The Texas Longhorns earned the only sweep of the weekend, taking all three games from the Auburn Tigers. Yes, they have one conference loss like the Sooners, but that was against Florida, which is considered to be one of the better teams in the nation.

It was an uneventful week for the Florida Gators, who won a pair of nonconference games over Jacksonville and North Florida. They’ll take on UCF on Wednesday before a three-game series against last-place Auburn.

The Tigers took two of three from a top 15 Georgia squad, including a run-rule win in game two. The Tigers are No. 2 in the conference in team batting average and No. 2 in team ERA.

Arkansas gets the biggest bump in the rankings this week after taking two of three from the Tennessee Volunteers. This came after a strong performance against the Oklahoma Sooners the week before. The Razorbacks aren’t a team to sleep on in SEC play.

6. South Carolina (24-6, 2-4)

This weekend, South Carolina took two of three from Texas Tech in nonconference play. Their only loss came on Sunday, a 6-5 game. They hold a series win over Georgia as well. The Gamecocks are a force at the plate.

7. Tennessee Volunteers (27-6, 3-3)

Tennessee leads the SEC in team ERA but they dropped two of three to Arkansas this weekend. Karlyn Pickens is one of the best pitchers in the game, but if they can’t find a solid No. 2, the Vols may struggle in a three game series. Next up is a trip to Norman to take on the Sooners.

Texas A&M also gets a bump this week also. They’ve won two-straight series after dropping two of three to Florida to open conference play. But those series wins have come against Auburn and Alabama who are a combined 2-13 in conference play.

The Bulldogs have been one of the surprise teams of the season thus far, and they just took two of three from Northwestern in Illinois. The Bulldogs are only 10th in the conference in team batting average and eighth in team ERA, so they still have a lot to prove. They’ll welcome the Texas Longhorns to town this weekend for a three-game series.

10. Kentucky Wildcats (21-11, 5-4)

Kentucky bounced back from being swept by LSU with a strong performance against a surprising Ole Miss squad. Sarah Haendiges earned the win on Sunday, throwing 5.1 innings and allowing no earned runs.

11. Ole Miss Rebels (26-6, 3-3)

After a series win over Arkansas, the Rebels fell back to Earth, losing the series to Kentucky over the weekend. The Rebels were held to just two runs in the deciding game on Sunday.

12. Alabama Crimson Tide (22-12, 2-4)

The Crimson Tide have gone 2-5 in their last seven games with series losses to Mississippi State and Texas A&M. Alabama is No. 5 in the conference in batting average and ninth in the conference in team ERA. They just haven’t put it together this season.

Georgia hasn’t won a series in SEC play, but they’ve faced Tennessee, South Carolina, and LSU, three of the best teams in the conference. So far, in 2025, Georgia is No. 13 in the conference in both hitting and ERA.

Missouri went into the weekend matchup with the Sooners in last place in the SEC and statistically one of the worst teams in a power conference. The pitching showed up on Saturday and Sunday to limit the Sooners for 13 innings until an OU breakout in the seventh in game three. Could this be the start of something good for the Tigers?

15. Auburn Tigers (21-11, 0-9)

The Auburn Tigers have had a rough start to conference play, getting swept by Mississippi State, Texas A&M, and Texas. They’re last in the league in team batting average and team ERA.
