Van Jones: Trump will keep 'falling' as long as he 'continues to throw fits'

Democratic strategist Van Jones said former President Trump is not helping himself in his new race for the White House against Vice President Harris.

“As long as she can continue, just, to stay optimistic, she’s gonna keep moving forward,” Jones said Thursday of Harris on CNN’s “The Source” with CNN anchor Pamela Brown.

And on Trump, Jones added: “And as long as he continues to throw fits, he’s gonna keep falling.”

Harris has reignited enthusiasm among Democrats since she launched her campaign in the wake of President Biden exiting the 2024 presidential race last month. Shortly after Biden announced he was leaving the race, he endorsed his vice president.

“What we’ve gotta keep doing is focusing on what’s working for us,” he said of his fellow Democrats. “There is an optimistic message here, there’s a hopeful message here, there’s a change message here.”

Republicans have pushed for the former president to turn his attention to policy following his recent attacks against Harris after she kicked off her presidential campaign last month. His former adviser, Kellyanne Conway, said that a “winning formula” for Trump involves “fewer insults” earlier this week.

Harris has been gaining in recent polls; she now leads Trump by 1.8 points in an average of national polls from The Hill/Decision Desk HQ. She also came out 4 points ahead of Trump in the three important battleground states of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin in recent The New York Times/Siena College polling.

The Hill has reached out to the Trump campaign.
